Abstract
Peace psychology places psychological analyses at the center of transdisciplinary efforts to promote peace and inclusive human well-being. In this article, we demonstrate some ways peace psychology has contributed to the prevention and mitigation of discrete episodes of violence and the insidious problem of structural violence. We begin by placing peace psychology in historical context and present key concepts and practical applications. We identify psychologically based interventions to prevent and mitigate each of the three phases of an intractable cycle of violence: conflict phase, violence phase, and postviolence phase. Cultural narratives used to justify peace and violence are identified and discussed.
